How to make a practice grenade pop?

Kinda odd for the hunting section, but I was just wondering how one goes about making a practice grenade pop. I was at a gun show today and bought a m2 practice grenade. It lacks a spring and the primer has been used. Is there anyway I can make it just go "boom" or is this not possible? Any legal issues? Where can I get parts?
